What is Buteyko Breathing

Buteyko is a breathing re-education program with a series of breathing exercises that will restore normal breathing patterns. Most people in todays modern world unknowingly suffer from breathing pattern disorder (BPD) and it is arguably the cause of many chronic health conditions.

BPD basically means ‘over breathing’ or more technically ‘Hyperventilation Syndrome’. By over breathing we cause changes to blood gas levels which then decreases oxygen delivery to the muscles and internal organs resulting in numerous health problems.

The Buteyko method is scientifically proven and recognised to significantly reduce conditions such as Asthma, Anxiety, Sleep Apnea, COPD, ADHD & ADD. The list doesn’t stop here.

Billericay Sports Therapy is certified and registered by Buteyko International and has been trained in person by Patrick McKeown, Author of many books including Oxygen Advantage and Close your mouth. We treat many patients suffering from Asthma, Sleep problems, Anxiety, COPD, ADHD, Cystic Fibrosis etc with validated Buteyko breathing exercises. We supply both in clinic and online appointments which allow us to treat people not only from Essex or the UK but worldwide.

About Buteyko Breathing

The Buteyko method is a breathing re-training method that originates from Russia. It is based on research and exercises devised by Russian scientist, Dr konstantin Buteyko. Dr Buteyko identified 150 disorders which could be resolved by normalising ones breathing.

In 2014 the Buteyko method was awarded an evidence level rating of ‘A’ by Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) – a world body of Asthma experts – which is the highest grade that GINA assign to any form of treatment for Asthma.

19 separate clinical trials investigating the Buteyko breathing method as a treatment for Asthma all demonstrated significant improvements to Asthma control with up to 70% reduction in symptoms or wheezing and coughing, 90% reduction in the need for Asthma reliever medication and a 50% reduction in the need for Asthma steroid medication within 12-24 weeks.

5.4 million people in the UK receive treatment for Asthma & 16 million UK adults suffer from sleep disorders and the numbers are on the rise. If you ask a health care specialist what causes Asthma their answer is likely to be ‘I don’t know’. Western medicine is literally only just beginning to recognise the importance & evidence behind breath training even though the science, knowledge and research has been evident for the past 100+ years.

The Buteyko breathing method has been validated by numerous independent trials and hundreds of thousands of positive outcomes for children and adults suffering Asthma and other conditions worldwide.
