About Buteyko Breathing
The Buteyko method is a breathing re-training method that originates from Russia. It is based on research and exercises devised by Russian scientist, Dr konstantin Buteyko. Dr Buteyko identified 150 disorders which could be resolved by normalising ones breathing.
In 2014 the Buteyko method was awarded an evidence level rating of ‘A’ by Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) – a world body of Asthma experts – which is the highest grade that GINA assign to any form of treatment for Asthma.
19 separate clinical trials investigating the Buteyko breathing method as a treatment for Asthma all demonstrated significant improvements to Asthma control with up to 70% reduction in symptoms or wheezing and coughing, 90% reduction in the need for Asthma reliever medication and a 50% reduction in the need for Asthma steroid medication within 12-24 weeks.
5.4 million people in the UK receive treatment for Asthma & 16 million UK adults suffer from sleep disorders and the numbers are on the rise. If you ask a health care specialist what causes Asthma their answer is likely to be ‘I don’t know’. Western medicine is literally only just beginning to recognise the importance & evidence behind breath training even though the science, knowledge and research has been evident for the past 100+ years.
The Buteyko breathing method has been validated by numerous independent trials and hundreds of thousands of positive outcomes for children and adults suffering Asthma and other conditions worldwide.
